Sorry I got to this forum so late. I, too, was "selected" to receive Organic Style (I think everyone with an OG subscription was selected). I was offended. Emailed and snail mailed my ire to both Organic Style and Organic Gardening Mag reps. My OG subscription (2 years) was "reinstated" and I haven't received OS(which is a medical term for an opening...I think of it more as a "hole".) since that time. I'm not unhappy with OG mag. Thinner is fine. I don't need lots of uninformative fluff. Nor do I need advertising. I'll stick with OG but...I'll also check out Mother Earth News...again...it's been a lot of years since I last read an issue (stopped reading because I became disappointed with the mag a decade or so ago). I have noticed, at least for myself (a city organic gardener), that for the past couple of years, there really isn't any new information that has increased my flower, vegetable and/or herb production. I do appreciate reading information on genetics even though it does upset me.
All of your thoughts are informative so may I add mine: I'm not sure that there is really anything new when you're gardening in an organic manner...once you know the basics, seems that alls ya need is good compost and healthy soil to have happy productive plants and beneficials at your hands and feet. And a little knowledge about those "bad" bugs!
Best wishes to all of you for a new year filled with happy beneficials, a bountiful crop enough to share with a neighbor, and a physicially healthy year. If you have a chance this year, teach one child about a plant or a tree...it's a fascinating experience for both of you! Best wishes.

Hi, This is late in response but, I wanted to share. I too received the OG Style, I was not impressed and I too complained. I do not care for their slimmer style of OG, it is lacking what use to be in it. I have also subscribed to Mother Earth News and so far have been pleased, it balances what I am not getting from OG anymore. It is the support and new information that comes out of the magazine that makes it worth getting. I get a lot of stattic about my "beliefs" so to read yours was refreshing. It takes a little common sense, a lot of love and the appreciation of what God gave us. I know my Children appreciate it and they are learning the importance of Organic Gardening. Thank you,

You know when I was a kid I couldn't understand why my grandfather suscribed to OG. I thought that what he did was so common sense why did he need a magazine talking about fertiliers and pesticides that he didn't use. I didn't know what organic meant in the 80's. Now that I suscribe I finally understand what he saw. I learned all my early techniques from him so I never used chemicals in my gardening. I just wish he was still around so I could thank him and tell him that someday my children will learn what he taught me.

I'd bet your Grandfather knows. I'd bet he's watching you as you garden...and every time you think about him...I'd bet he's right there, listening.
