I know what you mean. Around here we call them "The Lawn Nazis". No Dandelion or stray Plaintain is safe - lol! We've already seen one of our local "Lawn Nazis" (dressed in long pants, long sleeves, & a face mask) spreading Lord only knows what on his lawn. Luckily, their place is about 1/2 a mile away from us (& downhill), so I'm not too frightened.
But it is still a problem for ALL of us. The excess runs off into our underground water supplies. That affects everyone! Lawn chemicals combined with ag chemicals are the major causes of those dead zones, aka algae blooms...which in turn kills or affects ocean/sea life.
How many people believe the crap that they market, and think that their lawns NEED all that garbage? Got bugs? Kill them. If you think they might be in your garden or lawn apply this... I asked a man in line at home depo with 40# bags of Scott's 1, 2 and3 why he was using all those chemicals with all that expense and he said, "for a greener lawn" Come see my lawn, it's the best one on the street with zero chemicals..save your money.

Fine. YOU want to come over here & confront my "Lawn Nazis" & preach organic? You're welcome to them. I, however, have to actually LIVE in this neighborhood, & it's bad enough that after living here since 1997 we're still frowned upon as newcomer "Yankees". All the more power to you, my dear.

I know an attorney who is suing Scotts for consumer fraud. Anyone from Missouri, Minnesota, New Jersey, or New Mexico that can prove they used it? There could be some money at the end of it. Stl4thebirds on gmail
Does anybody know whether fines have been levied yet? Scotts suggested $4 million, which we all know would be a drop in their poison-laden bucket. I did a quick google search and found nothing after the initial shock and outrage postings in late March.

I'm still trying to find info. about how much Scotts has to pay for the poisoned bird seed. The company suggested a fine of $4 million--a drop in their profits bucket.

I cannot find ANYTHING about sentencing from their March guilty plea. Why does it seem to take corporations so much longer to be sentenced for their illegal activities than people? According to Citizens United, corporations ARE people, after all. What makes them so special that months and months go by before sentencing?

Lawn and garden products company Scotts Miracle-Gro will pay $12.5 million in fines for poisoning bird feed and violating pesticide laws, officials said Friday.
Scotts will pay record criminal and civilian penalties for a litany of pesticide violations, including “illegally applying insecticides to its wild bird food products that are toxic to birds,” the Justice Department said in a statement.
The company pleaded guilty in February to that violation as well as falsifying pesticide registration documents, distributing pesticides with misleading and unapproved labels and distributing unregistered pesticides.

Makes me think of the stories of all the dead birds found in various areas and the doubtful explainations and theories given----I tend to believe now that Scots was the real culprit
Whoo-hoo! Judgment has FINALLY been reached... to the tune of $12.5 MILLION! Doesn't mean much to all the dead wildlife, but it sure does hurt Scott's where it counts!

As you may be able to tell, I haven't read this thread in a very long time. So if Breezy just happens to see this.... I wouldn't think of preaching to the yard nazis! I also am still an outsider because I am a "Yankee" and will always be one in this area cause I wasn't raised here! I do, however, get my 2 cents in every chance I get. I even "help" folks who are shopping in the local garden centers at the same time as me. I know I've changed at least one person's outlook...so that is progress! And during the Master Gardener class I attended, I took every opportunity to point out organic alternatives that we could all do instead of using chemicals. By the end of the classes, I think the local extension agent was pretty perplexed with me! TOUGH!
