I missed that NOW show. I think it is repeated on Sunday. It's clear that they want to inhibit all protest, and especially intimidate journalists. Not as bad as Russia, where they just shoot the journalist, or China, where they jail them.
Then of course progressive journalists like Amy are not as well known as they are counterparts are in places like Russia.

What the hell do you think an arrest is? You hand someone cuffs and ask them to put them on themselves?
I've witnessed and assisted with arrests of violent persons in the past. You don't mess around.
She was told to not cross the line in a tense situation, she deliberately did. She was arrested. Boo freaking hoo.
Yes there are reasons to be concerned about the militarization of our police forces, something that's been happening since the Clinton administration. Then again, they have shown flashes of old fashion common sense (such as the peaceful arrest of the tax protesters in New Hampshire last fall that took balls of brass by the Federal Marshals who carried it out).
Equally, there is reason to be concerned about the violence of (predominantly) left wing fringe protestors. It's their actions that have caused the police to take harder line stands, and much of what people perceive as over-reaction is actually assuring sufficient force by properly trained officers is present to keep situations from escalating out of control and with fatal misunderstandings (think Kent State). It's not just the left; the right wing nuts has forced us to take security steps like the bomb barriers around federal courthouses.
For goodness sake, I was listening to one NPR segment yesterday by a self-described anarchist group whining about being arrested. They do know, I trust, when they named themselves anarchists they took up the name of a philosophy that waged a campaign of assinations and bombings at the turn the 20th century? You might as well say you have a bomb in an airport as describe yourself as an anarchist and expect to not attract attention.
This situation is about the last thing on earth I'd use a poster child for abuse -- don't want to get arrested? Probably don't want to keep trying to push your way through police in riot gear.
