I'm busting at the seams, I'm so excited, & I wanted you guys to be the first to know.

As many of you know, I went into business for myself last year--as a real estate investor. Several months into it I began to realize that it was not going to be a quick-money venture; real estate investing is more of a long-term wealth building strategy.

As my money began to run out & credit card debt grew, I had to find a way to start generating some short-term income. So now I'm doing internet marketing & I absolutely LOVE it! I've always wanted to write for a living, well, I now have my first live Web site & a blog that I'm posting stuff on and writing articles for. The URL is www.gratefulgrebe.com if you want to check it out. I am targeting Web entrepreneurs over age 40. Please keep in mind that this site is still in beta stage. I'm in the process of getting feedback from IM experts who know a LOT more than I do about this kind of stuff.

But that's all back story to what I'm REALLY excited about. I have chosen organic gardening as one of my marketing niches. (Google the phrase "organic gardening" and the search engine will come back with more than 2 million hits. For hobby gardeners we are no longer on the fringe.)

So I'm going to start conducting teleseminars & interview "expert" organic gardeners. And you'll never guess who my first interviewee is: Ed C. Smith, author of The Vegetable Gardener's Bible! How many of you have his book on your gardening reference shelf?

I spoke with him yesterday & he's on board. Maybe it's not as big of a deal to you guys, but I'm thrilled. He has a very down-to-earth style. Doesn't come right out and say he's an organic gardener, but his practices are. Can you tell I'm a big fan?

Anyways, that's my big news. I will keep you all posted about the date and time for the teleseminar. It's free, except for the cost of the call. There will be a web page up next week, asking for questions to ask Mr. Smith.

Hey, and if any of you have suggestions for other notable organic gardening personalities for me to interview, please do let me know! Thanks!

Congrats! It's always good when you are passionate about your work. Ask Ed what he thinks the chances are of large scale farmers going organic? Ask him what he thinks of Monsanto? That should get you somewhere, hopefully it's not out the door. Razzer

Please tell me Suasoria, do you have dial-up or DSL or cable? What browser do you use? When you say "having trouble" does that mean the pages are not loading at all, or are they loading slowly? Your feedback can help me get the site to be more user-friendly, which is extremely important to me. Thanks.

DSL, latest Firefox.

The home page is now loading very slowly, which is odd, since it should load a cached page - I just closed it and reopened it. Whoops, it just gave me a Page Load Error - "The server at www.gratefulgrebe.com is taking too long to respond. The requested site did not respond to a connection request and the browser has stopped waiting for a reply."

A few minutes earlier, the 'blog' and 'about us' links loaded too slowly for my taste. I didn't hang around long enough to see what they are.

Ouch. It's a server issue. Not liking that at all. Could you do me a favor and try again some other time? (not tonight) I hope it's just an occasional problem. I'll bet Ike is creating a traffic surge. Hope everybody's OK down there.
Thanks, Su!

Congrats, Phoebe! I can feel the excitement in your post!

You are a perfect example of what I was trying to explain to my 17 yr. old DD last night, who is beside herself because she doesn't know for sure what she wants to do with her life. I told her education is NEVER wasted and that it's very possible that she will have more than one career in her life and more than one chosen path. Different things appeal to us at different points in our lives. I'm so glad to hear that you've found something your passionate about!

Your website loaded up for me just fine (it looks great BTW), and we're on slow as a snail dial up service here, so I would say that is a good sign!

Good luck with your interview with Ed Smith - I'll bet he will be very interesting to talk to.
I was going to ask if he has plans to write a Flower Gardener's Bible, but I just noticed on the back cover of his book that someone already did write that book - but not him. Frowner

Keep us posted and best of luck to you in your new (ad)ventures! (Maybe you could write a children's book called "The Adventures of Phoebe The Grebe") Big Grin

It came up in about 4 seconds for me. And it must be very professional about computers, because I didn't understand what it says!

LOL. I think you're doing just fine with computers. In fact, I just noticed you signed up for the FB group OrganicGardening 101. I'll be there soon too as soon as I get my "FarmerPhoebe" page up.

Thanks for letting me know about loading time. The site was designed (not by me)purposefully to be quick-loading and easy to get around. Personally, I don't much care for websites with those fancy flash intro. pages (especially if you don't get the option to "skip" the intro) or that automatically go into audio mode (could you imagine how embarrassing it would be to be web surfing on your lunch break at a cubicle farm & have some song or voice or ad start blaring at you?! no thanks.

"Maybe it's not a big deal to you guys...."

WTF?!?!?! One of our buddies is finding a way to make what they truly love into a career that they'll be very happy with...and you think we won't be ECSTATIC about it! Of course it's a big deal!

Congratulations, we're DELIGHTED for you!

That is so cool! I bookmarked it, and will be reading more soon. I have been wracking my brain trying to think of some kind of career for myself; I have not worked in almost two years. I like being a housewife, but it doesn't pay all that well. Wink
