Nope, don't agree with talking just about gardening. This topic is clearly labeled as "not a gardening subject".
I also think that in sharing our feelings, we get to know and understand each other a bit more. Heck, all these discussions and I think I'd like a few of you to move into my town and we could really have some interesting conversations over a few bottles of home brew!
Also, as I hear the deeper thoughts and feelings posted here, I tend to listen to the gardening suggestions a little more carefully. And when we chit chat like this, and then on another forum crack gardening jokes, I laugh a bit harder as I "know" the personality behind the joke or behind the suggestions given.
A hundred bottles of beer on the wall a hundred bottles of beer, you take one down and with it drown a hundred slugs in the garden dear.
Ninety nine bottles of beer on the wall ninety nine bottles of beer, you take one down pass it around to a couple of friends in the garden here.

Seriously, tho. You prolly have a fire ant colony or two down there, Rusty. Gawd knows you've got all sorts of other vermin making their home in Texas...
I am interested in a test of Aspartame on a typical fireant community. Any chances of doing a bit of research? Quantity applied, changes in ant behaviour etc. Whatyathunk, huh?
A fireant colony or two is an understatement....So I guess you want me to support the Montocrap company and by some sweetner huh??? I might... but I dont like doing it....

Littlefrog, you still got apple problems? Why not do like Ripvanwinkle and take a nap under the ole apple tree? And when you awaken with the clunk of a falling apple on your head, you'll know the tree survived (and you'll have hair filled with mice nests).
WOW!!! :0 I have learned more from all of you to help me understand my own reasoning, my own feelings of patriotism than I ever could in a school room of oldsters like myself. Thank you one and all for expressing yourselves! It still saddens me that others see us as war mongers, self centered egotists-but like so many of you have said-over and over and over and over again----we can only set the example and try to be the best human beings possible and follow God's Golden Rule. Thanks again for all your input and thank you to those who have added my son to your prayer lists. He is a career soldier so your prayers will have to last at least another 9.3 years. Are we not the most fortunate-not only to have a link to be able to garner different view points from every walk of life-but so very lucky to have the right to do it!:x
I think the ultimate patriotism is the willingness to take a long hard look at your country and point out it's weaknesses as well as it's strengths. Of course simply pointing out problems without offering up some viable solutions just seems to be whining to me. I feel fortunate that I was born into a country where basic necessities of life are fairly easy to obtain. I try to think what it may be like to live in a place where just living past the age of two years is a major accomplishment, and there really isn't a whole lot of hope that your future will be much more than just surviving day to day. Is it any wonder that people cling so tightly to tribal and religious identity and look outward to wealthy countries with envy and fear? If you have no hope for anything good to happen in your life, hatred can fill that void. Look how conservative everyone gets when we go into an economic recession. Imagine that recession deepening over generations. Somewhere, sometime, our ancestors were all foreigners once. The human race has always travelled and settled into new areas, sometimes displacing other peoples that were there before and sometimes melding into existing cultures. How boring my world would be if I didn't have the stimulation of other views and other cultures-
