Lisaan, some of us (like gardenz) learn new technology quickly and others (like you and me) don't. That doesn't make us stupid; there are various ways of being intelligent. Just the fact that I can handle a computer somewhat is a miracle! But I have built in help, DH, who taught himself enough that he became a computer/web site professional. And there's also DGS, who could play with our pc before he could talk, and now at age 12 can do almost anything. You should have seen him instructing me on some of the intricacies of the new Prius!
Speaking of which, where is Franeli? Also, gardenz is an excellent writer, and many of us have been urging her for years to gather up her garden writings and publish them. Jennifer in zone 10, Los Angeles, Sunset zone 22 |

Ok, so this is a bit off-topic - but I just have to say that the post from the Rodale IT dept, imported from the Backpacker site made me shudder. I was a Wilderness Ranger at Carson Pass, California (Eldorado National Forest) several years ago (where the mountain photo in the message was taken)and it was by far one of the worst jobs I have ever had - [second only to my 3 days of waitressing in a German Bistro with loud, live music - where all the specialty beers sounded exactly alike to me and I couldn't hear a dang thing anyone said to me]
Uggh - thanks for the bad memories of rude people, 1000's of dogs running off the leash despite my having posted 7 - count them 7 - signs at the trailhead explaining that a dog off a leash will result in a ticket (written by me, unfortunately), and bus loads of old ladies picking the wildflowers, right next to the sign that explained why picking the flowers was prohibited. I called that place the NO-zone because of all the regulations - and I was not the right person the have to enforce those regs - Ahhh - Ok - I'm getting over it.... |

Sooooo, I already have an album of spring '06 flowers set up on Yahoo! Photos. Would it work if I just posted a link to that album?

Absolutely! That's what those of us who had albums on other sites did before the photo album feature was offered here at OG. Even though I've created an album here, I'll still link to an album of mine or just to a specific picture I have at an off-site album, like Picturetrail, Flickr or Photobucket.

where I write this message I can not seem to do a copy paste into it. this is particularily a problem on url for photos. I seem to have to type in the entire long string and it is easy to make a mistake.
I have not been able to get an avatar picture to be accepted. I have to type in the entire url and then it accepts it but it does not seem to get used in postings. lets see if there is an avatar on this posting. thanks for any help on using this web site. |

HSM, If you're copying and pasting urls into that little drop down dialog line when you click "url" in the green line above the message box, quite often this doesn't work. So just paste the url into the message box itself with the tags [URL=http// (url here)[/URL]. If this is what you're already doing, then I can't explain why it isn't working.
The avatar thing has been a problem for many people, so I've read. Most have tracked it down to trouble w/their particular browsers. I'd suggest that you email the administrators, Lee Leckey or Scott Meyer @rodale.com. Hopefully, they'll be able to help you on this and the url thing, if you're still having difficulties. I'm sorry for being unable to offer any more help than this and for not responding sooner. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "The tools of conquest do not necessarily come with bombs and explosions and fallout. Forgive me if this has been asnwered, but it can be done using MS Paint and MS Word. In MS Word, open a document and cupload your picture into it from it's existing file. Use the editing controls to shrink you picture. Cut it from Word and paste it into a new MS Paint Screen (you might need to reduce the saize of the intitial screen on Paint in order to keep out the white bordering effect). Then use the "save As" function to save the downsized pic. My high school aged son taught me this trick. Bill Griffin Even Ham Radio operators love organic food. Especially here in SW lower MI. |

If you'd like a great, free graphics program. Try http://www.getpaint.net/index2.html
It's MUCH better than the MS products!!! Evil succeeds when good people do nothing. No trees were killed or animals harmed in the sending of this message; however a great many electrons were horribly inconvenienced. |

That's really cool!
But.... I didn't expect it to show as a topic!!! I thought it would be in the user profile area & folks would just go look at it if they wanted to! Evil succeeds when good people do nothing. A quick way to resize pictures is to use a tool from Microsoft that works with Windows.
Here's the link for the tool. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx Look in the right hand column for image resizer. |

Hello, I am new to this site and want to thank you for your easy to follow instructions for setting up a photo album. My husband has a wonderful digital camera with an amazing macro lens, and we would love to share pictures of Peacegarden with others. We are having so much fun with our organic garden! I am enjoying the "tour" of the forums I am taking this morning. Again, thanks for the help. That is one of the many fine qualities I observe in gardeners...the compulsion to share: the abundance of information, seeds, cuttings, zuchinni, well, you know the rest. Have a peaceful day.
