Pea, of course it'd be a lot easier to just load your photos directly to your computer if you had a digital camera. But, if you don't have a digital camera you could do what I did before I bought mine. If you have a printer/scanner like I do, what I did first was scan an already developed photo. When your computer "asks" 'what do you want to do with this image?" or 'where do you want to place it or file it?', I used to save it as a .jpg file and file it in my PHOTOS file folder. Then when I wanted to upload it to an online album or to a forum, I'd just go through the same steps we do now when loading digital images to an online album. You could either change the size of the picture when you're scanning it, or just let the album resize it for you as it does now for digital images that are uploaded. I did this 'scan and save' of old pictures when I was compiling a slide show of old tintype photos of my grandparents and my parents when they were children.

Hello, thatgardenfairy. Welcome to OG, btw. I checked out your link to shrinkpicture.com and read up about them. Seems like a very helpful and simple service (and free too ) for folks who can't resize pics through their own computer programs. Even though I have iPhoto, I tried shrinkphoto just to see how it worked. It was, indeed, easy and gave good results and could be quite helpful for members who want to load resized pics here into their own OG album. But, folks should still remember, if they want to use that resized photo as an avatar or place it within a post, the picture has to link to a bona-fide "URL". (i.e.: online album). It still can't just be stored on your own computer and uploaded from there onto OG. I noticed that shrinkpictures.com has a 'sister' site that hosts pictures for free called: 4freeimagehost. So one could use '4freeimagehost' to store pictures and from there load them onto OG in lieu of, say, using a Flickr or Photobucket account. Whichever service anyone choses to use re storing pics, however, it seems like each would still involve the same and the same number of steps. But, this shrinkpictures.com does overcome a lot of hurdles for those members who simply want to place pictures in their OG albums and have no other means to resize their pics. Thanks for the very helpful link.

So let me get this straight, after reading everything, I can create an Album to store all the pics I intend to use, instead of jumping back n forth from photobucket, I can just use this Album as a shortcut? Also, if I make an album, can anyone view it, or is it for personal use? Thanks, Blane.

It's that time again to remind newcomers to the Forums about proper sizing for posting pictures here. To be considerate to those people w/dial up service, it's preferable to load pictures that are no larger than, say, 640 X 420 pixels (or thereabouts). Or load them as a clickable thumbnail. Most online photo albums have this option. That way if someone wants to see a larger image of your picture, they can choose to click on the thumbnail. Pictures that are loaded here which are so huge one sometimes has to scroll off their computer screen to see it all, also takes those dial-uppers an awfully long time to load as well as the entire thread because that picture is on that thread. So, please downsize your pictures before you load them here or load them as clickable thumbnails. Thanks.
