Does anyone know how to "fix" the desktop?
I use Firefox for my browser. I have *many* icons on my desktop. I keep them grouped according to subject area.

Frequently when I open up computer, they are in different places than where I left them.

Some little desktop goblin?

It's not a major thing, but a little annoying. I don't understand - why don't they stay where I put them?

thanks for any advice,
ellen

I don't understand either. I use Firefox (and sometimes Safari). I don't, however, think your problem is w/your browser. I'd say it's more related directly to your computer. Have you looked in System Preferences for anything that might give you a clue as to what and why that's happening? I believe you have a Mac as I do, right?

BTW: If you have all those 'icons' grouped together in different areas of your desktop, why don't you just put them all in files of their own? Maybe the jumping around wouldn't happen then.

I would run a virus scan and check for spyware, if it's not from a hacker, it may be gremlins. Are you sure it's not a practical joker living under your roof?
It's not your browser. You can right click on the desktop and sort your icons. Someone may be playing a wee joke on you. Do you hear any giggling, chortling or detect unusual mirth from your housemates?

nope, I live alone, and my cat is smart, but I don't think she turns the computer on.
No Gardenz, I have a PC.

I think a virus scan, spyware would be a good idea, Gold Pearl, can you recommend one?

My protection is avg free. Every once in a while I have weird things happen which make me suspect I should do a virus scan. I come across them every so often, but sometimes using the wrong one can lead to problems.

If you recommend one it's gotta be easy. As you can see I am not exactly a computer expert.
Thanks.

Gardenz, reason I use my desktop so much (it's almost filled with icons), is I have so many things in my "My Documents". Then I started using the C drive to store things.
Now I also use del.ico.ios which is good.

So I use my desktop to keep things handy.

I found a question like yours on her message board:

I don't know much about computer stuff, so maybe folks here can comment on the above links?

My desktop is filled with folders organizing my photos and Word documents for easier, at-a-glance access. When the year changes and I think to do it, I drag all the previous year's folders into the C: drive. No fuss, no muss.

thanks hotmail,
that question is the same as mine, and who knew that there were actually ways to fix it?
not me.
I took a quick look, but I shall need more caffeine and then go back and give it a try.
