I've got my tomatoes, pears, and applesauce canned. Venison stew cooked and canned. The compost piles built. Windows all sealed and locked. Furnace filter changed. Antifreeze levels checked. Snowblower ready to roll. Sweaters all aired out and read for wear.

Yup – I’m all ready for winter.

I find it rather odd how content I feel once I get all of my winter preparations are all done.

Nothing left to do but sit back and sing “let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.”

It is a good feeling to be ready. You are several steps ahead of me but I'm getting there. At least I finally got the garlic planted. We still need to get another cord of wood, my garage is full of apples and pears to process, and there's lots of carrots in the ground yet, but inch by inch we're getting closer to being ready.

No sitting back and waiting for us. We got hammered over the past two days. Heavy snow with 40 mph winds. Winter has arrived with a vengeance. Frowner

I'll trade you my heavy rain for your heavy snow. I hate cleaning up muddy paw prints.

I still need to get my mower deck taken off the tractor and get the snow blower put on. We usually don't have any snow until a few days after Thanksgiving but this year we had over an inch yesterday, before Halloween.

That's over a month early so I was caught off guard.

That is pretty early -- I can't say as I ever remember having snow before Halloween either.

I'll still take the snow to the rain though, Went for my walk yesterday -- most of the neighborhood sidewalks are ankle deep in water. The streets are pretty full because the drains are clogged with leaves that the neighbors have pushed into the street (despite the fact that there's a $50 fine for that.) My neighbors on both sides must have flooded basements because they are pumping a steady stream water out of the basement window into the street.

We got hit with 3 ft. last Wednesday in CO, but it was those light flakes that settled down without a trace of wind -- beautiful! It was like shoveling air, out to the hen house, truck, and woodpile. Then, time for coffee, tea, or something stronger...

At least our early snow we had last week didn't last and was gone by nightfall.

I gave my yard one last mowing on Sunday and I am ready to put on the snow blower some time in the next week or two. Where I live in Eastern Washington State, at about 1,600 feet elevation, we got 5-feet of snow last year and I am told that while that was a lot we have had that much several other times. I sure hope we don't do that again this year.

I've got my garlic planted, and the plastic put over my windows. Other than that I am SO not ready for winter yet. We've already had snow that melted within hours. Mostly we've had an October full of cold gray days. Now November seems to be sunny and warm. Just got back from a walk with my neighbor, you'd think it was late September by the feel of the air.

And Topof the Hill, it FEELS GOOD! I told my dh not to be afraid of the big yellow thing in the sky on Sunday, "I think it is the sun!"

I live in Western SD, and I love a good rain, I like the changing seasons, but I like a little sunshine too. mk

It sure does feel good! Yesterday there were three of us women standing around in front of the post office just soaking up the sun. I said we look like a bunch of Hereford cows sunning ourselves on the hillside. Of course today we have the wind to make things interesting.
