What a relief! Takes forever and had/have some conflicts to resolve. Hopefully it will prove a better system (hard to be worse than Vista).

Sorry I can't help, but my son set me up with a Mac and I am still confused sometimes, but I saw a TV ad for the Windows 7 last night.

Good luck! I remember many nightmares people had with the Vista awhile back!

I haven't had any trouble with Vista (frantically looks around for some wood to knock on), although I dreaded it before I got it. I didn't even notice that much difference between it and whatever I had before (can't remember what it was, XP maybe?), but maybe that's just because I'm not computer literate enough to know the difference. Red Face

I have more trouble finding my way around when they update IE.

DH just bought a computer with windows 7. He already says he really likes it. I on the other hand am still thinking retaliatory thoughts against mictosoft about my vista.

Hello All,

Haven't seen you all in a while. Know Why? I've been trying to make Windows 7 work for the past month.

As far as I am concerned, Windows 7 is a giant leap...BACKWARDS.

Windows 7 is better than Vista the same way that shortening is better than lard.

I had a mother board failure and really didn't have much choice but to buy a new computer. However, if I can possibly have Vista put on this new one, I will do it in a heart beat.

Note the new Mac commercial - Windows 95 to Windows 7! Quite effective and funny. Can't quite put my finger on the logic for that numbering system (95>7)!

Funny thing is that I still have 2 windows 95 computers that I cobbled together in my classroom for my students.

They can't handle video and stuff like that, but my students are able to use them just fine for typing reports, recording experimental data on excel spreadsheets, sending and receiving email, checking their grades, taking online quizzes, and for downloading and printing their homework assignments.

So it is absolutely true, Windows95>7.

My experience with computers goes clear back to CP/M in the late 70's and every computer I've ever purchased was an improvement...until this one.

I waited on Vista as long as I could before I upgraded and haven't had many problems except for freeze screens at the earliest stages--and very few lately (last 2 or 3 yrs) and since all (I think) have had recalls or upgrades almost immediately after release, I'm hanging on until the major bugs are out of it before upgrading (if it's not broke, don't fix it) and besides--don't want to spend the $$$$ right now to do so.
If you're having problems with IE, try downloading Mozilla Firefox--I've had MUCH fewer problems since I've switched over.

Windows 7 does not play nicely with Firefox. Surprised?

Windows 7 has a terrible time handing off streaming audio to Real Player or even to Windows Media Player.

Windows 7 will not communicate with either of my MP3 players which I use to download daily podcasts of Morning Edition and All Things Considered so that I can hear the news in the car on the way to work in the morning. (No over the air radio or tv can be tuned in this part of the world)

Windows 7 substantially eliminates most of the features I had come to rely on in every prior version going back to version 2.0.

One favorite was the task launcher which, for the last 8 years, has turned on my computer like a clock radio and tuned it to streaming audio from my favorite radio station (KVOD).

While every computer upgrade I have ever done has been accompanied by a small amount of frustration, they have also all resulted in an improvement in my own efficiency and productivity. This is the first time I've not been able to convince myself that I am going forward.

I am truly disappointed with Windows 7. It cannot handle my new (last July) digital camera, or the large and expensive document camera I bought for my classroom, or my (less than 4 year old) digital video camera). It will not recognize my digital projector. It cannot communicate with any of my printers. It will not communicate with any of the other computers in the house.

In short, Windows 7 has eliminated most of the utilities that justify my even owning computers.

Sorry, this is the only place I have where I can blow off steam. If I don't vent here, I'll end up yelling at the kids and arguing with my wife and they don't deserve that.

I can't even go out and take out my frustrations on skeet. I blew all my reloading and clay pigeon money on this friggin new computer.

I've had just the opposite experience. Able to hear and download all my conservative talk show in variable formats. Participated in an on-line webcast (using Firefox) that I projected with no problems. No need to apologize for venting. Just out of curiosity what brand computer and might the problem be driver(s) related. Hope all the problems get resolved soon, I know your frustration. I still have several but they're software related. Good luck.

I was told to wait for the first service pack before getting any newly released OS. I got Vista when it was first released and had such trouble, mostly because of drivers. After the service pack, things are going rather smoothly. Still waiting on downloading IE8, my tech said there were problems.

*sigh* I still remember DOS 3.0 with great fondness... and wish I could somehow get my WordPerfect 5.2 word processor to recognize the existence of USB ports, and therefore print to my laser printer. (Because WP5.2 doesn't bloat my file sizes, doesn't hide formatting codes, and doesn't annoy the hell out of me with mouse functions. I know exactly what I want to do with my keyboard, and it's faster for me than lifting a hand off the keypads to the mouse and back.)

My hub managed to get my Windows XP to run a DOS emulator window, which will run my DOS-based WordPerfect. That pretty much guarantees marital continuity, because I don't know what I'd do if I couldn't get WP to work. Wink
