Hello Kids-

A B_T sandwich. One Cherokee Purple tomato sliced thick. Three slices of Harriet XXXVIII bacon cooked crispy and broken into bite sized pieces. (My uncle names every pig Harriet and mesquite smokes the bacon himself.) Just enough real Mayo on my home made whole wheat bread. ( I don't use lettuce because I don't think it adds anything to the sandwich, I can't grow decent leaf lettuce, and no way will I buy a whole head for a sandwich or two.)

It fills my whole head with happiness. Good thing one will fill me up.

This weekend I may have enough Cherokee Purples to throw a modest BLT party. Lettuce for company. And fresh salsa for all!

Happy harvest!

Ria

You are making me drool all over my clean pajama top.

I am trying to lose a few, and can't have bread OR bacon. All the tomatoes I want, though--but unfortunately our neglected overcrowded little vines only produce a tomato every few days.

Can I come over?

Mmmmm... Bacon. Lettuce makes my face break out even worse than usual, so I have to have a BST - Bacon/Spinach/Tomato.

BTW, Elfie, it's funny to read your "Mmmmm...bacon" and be looking at your new avatar, lol! Like who's really posting that phrase? Smiler

Don't eat pork, lamb or beef much, but do remember the taste. Maybe I'll try a vegie bacon lt.

Hey Maggie-

Do you consume cheese? Tonight it is a grilled cheese w/ Cher. Purple. Sharp cheddar cheese made by someone in Ireland, it says. Could be a relation I guess. And if you have bell pepper, (I don't yet) a thin slice or two is great. I promise, folks, it's a big bowl of real oatmeal every (OK, almost every) morning. Don't call my doctor for an intervention.

Yes - I love cheese and I'm not even a vegetarian, more of a vegetarian sympathiser as my dd is a vegie. But I have been on a very low fat diet for ages (if only it was low sugar and low calorie) in order to improve my overall health, so I keep all the meat low for those two reasons, but we both eat shellfish and some fish.

Sharp cheese is great and nothing beats a simple grilled cheese sandwich, but I don't see the pepper. I picked up the English taste for grilled cheese and tomato, which is absolutely fantastic if you haven't tried it.

Tonight was veggie spaghetti (angel hair actually), made with two pints fresh tomatoes, one can sauce, an onion, two cloves homegrown garlic, a very small bell and two unripe, so mild, cayennes, a perfect sized zuchinni, two cups tofu crumbles, and spices, of course. I threw the last of last year's dehydrated carrots in with the pasta while it was boiling. Plenty of chile powder made it tangy.

I don't often get my dd to agree to sit down for a healthy meal, but when I do cook, I invariably overeat.

How about BBT: bacon, basil and tomato? I like to use those big "lettuce leaf" basil leaves in salad instead of lettuce, as a little lettuce goes a long way for me.

Another family favorite is open faced tomato, (on toasted whole wheat bread) bacon and cheddar, put into the oven just long enough to melt the cheese.
