We need another thread for the recently departed!
Dirt (projectile vomit emoticon goes here) PS. Please post in ascending order of date registered. (Sarcastic remark deleted) Trust me! I'm from the government, I'm here to help! |

The last word I heard was as he left the forum. He said to me, "Well, my work is done here."
Then he handed me a little silver pipe. Wayne "If women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy." |

Perhaps this is the last word...it is happening and it will continue...because it's the right thing to do. Thirty years of activism is finally beginning to bear fruit and the DARE-addicts are losing ground. “We’re gypsies in the palace, he’s left us here alone The order of sleepless knights will now assume the throne.” |

Can't disagree more. First I don't agree that 30 years of activism has been solely directed at legalizing medical uses. Secondly, I went to a very small conservative high school with a senior class of 40 people. Pretty easy to know what was going on. Of the 4 people that indulged 3 are dead (drug related) and 1 in doing life for murder (drug related).
Dirt BTW (to no one in particular). Please feel free to disregard or criticize my opinion. I can handle it. Trust me! I'm from the government, I'm here to help! |

I couldn't agree more, Dirt. Same scenario - small high school - 90 in my graduating class. Hard to miss what everybody was doing. Most of those that indulged are now gone.
Also... On October 7th, granny kate gave what were "then" her last words on the subject when she wrote the following to our moderator, Matthew Linde: "Matt, hope you feel big and powerful now! This sort of censorship is disgusting. You allow Breezy and his ilk to call names and run people off the boards yet when the DARE-addicts complain about the mention of a US-banned substance, the ax falls. Small minds....I haven't time for this." Mojave Desert ~ Zone 10 ~ Growing season: mid-Feb. through Nov., interrupted by nearly 3 months of incandescent, growth-stopping summer heat. |

That would be "her" ilk - LOL!! Carry on. . . . |

Obviously not true. Evident she hasn't time to look up the definition of "censorship" either. Dirt Trust me! I'm from the government, I'm here to help! |

Aunt Honey and Dirt, I have no desire to quarrel with you or anyone else on this board but having been an hemp activist since the founding of NORML (National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws) in 1970, I've worked to defeat the racist propaganda put out by Nixon's War on Drugs. In 2002 I worked with law enforcement to found LEAP (Law Enforcement Against Prohibition.) I'm truly sorry for the loss of your friends due to drug abuse. Drug abuse of any kind is a terrible thing. However, the majority of deaths today due to drug abuse are due to pharmaceuticals, "legal" drugs, not marijuana.
I blew off the moderator on this board simply because I didn't have the time to properly educate him on the difference between advocacy of changing laws and advocating illegal activities. Most thinking folks know the difference. Those who have been DARE-addicted or are Nancy Reagan acolytes don't know the difference. They are perfectly happy to continue to incarcerate non-violent marijuana users whose crime has no victim while allowing the child molesters to go free and practice their craft on unsuspecting children. I have no time to spend being angry about something written on a forum board, the main reason being that a recent tragedy has left me and DH as primary care givers for an 83 year-old aunt who is a recent stroke victim and her two young granddaughters. The past couple of months have been pretty stressful. Dirt, Hope your back and shoulder are better. Maybe you should take the time to look up the definition of censor. I learned it back in junior high school; maybe you were absent that day? The Encarta dictionary has about the same definition as my Funk & Wagnalls so you can look it up there. Yesterday's elections give me hope that the thinking people of the US will finally win this battle and citizens will be allowed to raise their own food, fiber and medicine. Cannabis is a gift from the Creator just as any other food or herbal plant. It can be abused. Look around you---food is the most abused substance in the US today. How else do you explain all those fat people running around crying to us to pay for their health care? But that's another debate isn't it? Why should I contribute to paying for your high blood pressure meds when you are 50 pounds overweight and refuse to do what you must to lose it? “We’re gypsies in the palace, he’s left us here alone The order of sleepless knights will now assume the throne.” |

Hey granny,
I’ve never used marijuana in my life and never will, but if it was up to me it would be legal. Hell, if it was up to me, cocaine, heroin and even meth would be legal, too. Tax the stuff and treat it like any other vice. Wait.....did I just say “tax”??? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ There's plenty of room for all God's creatures...............right next to the mashed potatoes. |

Waa... waa… waa… Pay for my high blood pressure medicine granny kate! OK, I was only on it for 6 months and that was a few years ago when the pain from my back was overwhelming, but I just want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for paying the WHOPPING total of $20 for 6 months of high blood pressure medicine. Oops... with the $5 co-pay per refill, I guess that's a whopping $10 "you" paid for. (Not sure if you were part of my insurance group, but I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt.) Of course, when I was thin and healthy, “you” paid for 5 knee surgeries, countless stitches, a broken jaw, a broken arm, 4 sprained ankles, 2 stretched tendons, and 1 back surgery. I’ll thank “you” for that as well. I’m sure the 10 million males who spent $12 per magic ED pills would like to thank you as well. I don’t know how you can compare the abuse of food to the abuse of mind altering substances. I never ran over a person and dragged him 500 yards down the street until crashing into a garage door while high on a twinkies. But, someone high on MJ – sorry “cannabis” -- did that to my brother. I have never gone to an all you can eat restaurant and suddenly decide that I needed to stab my partner 12 times. But, that’s what my aunt’s boyfriend did when high and drunk – and was out in less than 10 years because the MJ and alcohol had altered his mind. Yes. I am fat. But my “addiction” (if you will) to chips-n-cheese, pizza, and burritos does not endanger the lives of others. My recreational eating has never killed anyone, has never harmed anyone but me. Of course, if you want to make those items illegal so that my life would be healthier, I could live with that. The NYC and Philly has already banned the use of hydrogenated oils, so the wheels are already turning. ----- Just living is not enough... I think that IF you are in an insurance group, then YOU pay every month for the chance that you break your leg, get high blood pressure ect.
What I don't quite see, is how can they expect us to pay for the insurance and THEN say we are too fat, or smoked too much, or did repetitive motion or just have the bad genetics to make cholesterol and are not going to be covered. I mean we paid for it. ps, very sorry about your brother. As a teacher I would rather promote getting high on life, doing things, not sitting around high, or waiting to get high. mrs.K mk |

Thanks Mrs. K. My brother actually escaped with no broken bones - needed skin grafts, which was pretty painful -- but all in all he was extremely lucky.
My aunt, however, was not lucky. Neither were her 5 children who had to be taken in by the rest of the extended family because their alcoholic father could not take care of them. ----- Just living is not enough... One must have sunshine, freedom, and a little flower. ~ Hans Christian Anderson |

Catie I am sorry for your losses due to drug abuse. As I've said before, drug abuse is a horrible thing, be it legal or illegal drugs. I advocate for the right to grow cannabis, call it hemp, call it marijuana, call it weed or pot. I do not advocate abusing any substance. I say it is wrong to incarcerate non-violent marijuana users. I say it is wrong to arrest patients and remove children from homes where patients are using marijuana for one of its many recognized medical applications. I say it is wrong that the majority of patients must pay a pharmaceutical company to synthesize the very medicine that they could grow themselves were they not afraid of being arrested.
I'm sorry you've made the choice to be fat. Your remarks about your being fat not hurting anyone else just don't wash. Fat people are at higher risk for cancer. Cancer treatment is one of the more costly medical treatments. Fat people are higher risks for heart disease and diabetes, two more very costly treatment regimes. A recent study I read in the doc's office said that 80% of fat parents produce fat children, compounding the family's medical problems and costs even more. So you can justify your fatness all you wish but the science is against you. You're costing us all with each new illness caused by your own choices. With a bit of self discipline you might be able to avoid that by-pass surgery in a few years. After a recent VA survey of patients who underwent by-pass surgery in VA hospitals it was noted that 94% of those by-pass patients were obese. Despite the fact that pharmaceutical companies are working feverishly to address this national problem, the medical profession has thrown up its hand and cried "Epidemic!" My grandmother had a saying: If it doesn't go past the lips, it won't end up on your hips. Too bad she's no longer with us or I'd nominate her to be the president's Czar to address this epidemic. “We’re gypsies in the palace, he’s left us here alone The order of sleepless knights will now assume the throne.” |

I have never met a parent that had young children in the home that was using weed as a pain treatment. It has always been recreational to abusive levels, and the children are neglected during their high time.
Good lord, relax on the anti fat campaign, look at all the people being employeed! mk |

How about a Czar to address the epidemic of rude people posting on forums?
