I like picking stones out of the gardening bed, but pretend it is real work.
That way anyone who sits with me and plucks stones too, think they are helping me, but really they are doing a mindless chore and chit chat about everything that is really important.
Moral of the story:
Get the hubby or kid to help you pluck stones, the accidental, vast, sometimes unwanted, bit of information you recieve from that mindless task, could very well, send you over the edge.

I always plant and i rarly plan,or plan well. It doesn't have anything to do with gardening ,just life in general but I try to SHUT UP AND LISTEN and you'd be amazed at what you hear. Mavis

I like to dig in the dirt and pick rocks out of it too. I like to use the larger ones as decoration. I once made a little dry creek bed in the middle of the rose garden, but Mom didn't like it, so it had to go. Maybe I'll bring it back; it might keep some of the weeds from coming up.
I think there needs to be at least a little bit of randomness and whimsy in the garden. It should be fun!

You should always have a plant B.

Gardening secret: I prune roses with one hand, because the other hand is wrapped around a gin and tonic. Seriously on a spring or early summer evening? Nothing is finer than a refreshing cocktail in one hand and the pruners in the other. When the drink is finished, I'm done with my garden chores for the day.

I love to weed! I get instant gratification and I spend the time daydreaming about what my garden will look like when I finish it. Of course, I won't be finished until my ashes are scattered over it and I am fertilizer!
Please pass the compost!

I draw a map as I plant stuff, and never label anything. That means no one else knows I've got heirlooms in the garden until the fruit's ripened... and why my tomatoes never seem to turn RED. (Theft was a problem at the community gardens.)
I have three seasons: GROW, *SEW*, and SEED CATALOG!

I always have good intentions to clean up my garden in the fall, but by that time I'm very very lazy or worn out (whichever excuse seems plausible at the time). So I deal with all of it in the spring with DH's help, of course.
Hey! Pssssst!! K, lemme see. OH! Lisaann! Mine sleeps in the winter. Shhhhhh, don't tell anybody.
