I've had a wonderful day so far! Minus that tiller problem. Chris(my 2 yr old son) and I have been out there since this morning cleaning out flower beds, finding all kinds of things coming up. Before we started it didn't look like anything was coming up. What a nice surprise!! Smiler
We had to come in for nap time so I thought I would get on and see what everybody was up to.
We got the mowing done too. It's 65 here now,but tomorrow it's supposed to start raining so I thought I would get that done so it doesn't get too tall.
My son had his first lesson in planting today! I had to turn the soil with my trusty shovel(which is more than I can say for that tiller) so we could put in the green onions. He wanted to eat them instead of plant them.It was soooo cute when he would try to crumble the dirt to cover them. He imitates everything I do when I show him something so I had to try to make sure I was doing it fun so he didn't get bored. Sometimes when we are outside he has no attention span. Just too much to get into and explore out there. I was just so happy that he got into it and stayed with it until I was done. I think he will want to 'help' out there all the time.
It was all around just a wonderful day. I hope this whole summer is as enjoyable as this.
And I hope all of you had a great day too!! Big Grin

Hey Farmerbrown! It's still too cold here to do anything outdoors - did a little snoozing this afternoon though and dreamed about gardening! I'm glad you and Chris had a good day outside. Sometimes it's hard to be patient with little ones when you have things you want to get done....congratulations on seeing that the process is just as important as the end result! I'm sure you will have a great summer together!

Your post reminded me why I love this forum so much...with materialism running so rampant in our world today, it's nice to have 'friends' who value a nice day in the great outdoors. I think we keep each other grounded here - and help each other to appreciate the small miracles that are everywhere - if we just take the time to look!

I had a rare visit from my step-mother (& organic gardening mentor) & sister today, a 2-hour distance away. They came up to see what I'd done so far on my gardens & to see the new grandbaby. It was so lovely to have my son & his wife & BOTH babies here (one 15 months old & one 10 days old), & my out-of-town family, & of course, my hubby & step-daughter. It was brisk outside, but sunny, & we all spent a good part of the day snooping around my flower borders & chasing our toddler, & taking turns cradling our tiny new infant,..& so nice to feel all the love we have in our extended crazy mixed up family (proof that a bunch of divorced folks can rebuild complicated families that really work!) I sent my step-mother home with a peatpot of Brandywine tomatoes, & my sister raided my seed box & left with a nice stash. & everyone loved my manicotti (my homemade noodles, folks!) & chicken parmesan. I feel very blessed today.

it's great to hear that everyones' day was so wonderful. i also had a pretty good day. i was up at my new house helping w/ the auctioning of stuff to clear it out. the trust has agreed to pay $1000 of the $$ to taek out the 6 big trees. they let me call in an arborist who quoted $1200! so i only have to pay $200 to get those trees out!!!
he's going to come by in a few weeks when he has some time to do it. he only lives a block away, so he can do it in slack time for himself & his crew, as a filler job. i'm having him leave on of the stumps very tall, to grow a flowering vine on (i think that was such a wonderful idea!)
he's going to leave all the brush & the wood for me to deal w/, but he'll cut the logs into 2 ft sections for the fireplace. he says there should be about 2 cords in ea of the 6 trees! i'm rentin me a spliter! the trees will all be out & my garden in by the time i move in. that's placed maybe in june. i should also have the planter/tree rotter box in the front yard turned butterfly garden by then as well.
yes, it's been a good day for me as well!! Big Grin

No trees were killed or animals harmed in the sending of this message; however a great many electrons were horribly inconvenienced.

Lindap, can I be an adopted child? I love home made pasta of any kind! My day was a wonderful one too! I spent it with my husband and parents at my parents house. We helped a neighbor of theirs cut down some trees so his garden could get more sun. I then came home and uncovered the plants that made it through a small frost we had last night.

As all my perennials are planted with wheels with the caveat they they shouldn't get too
comfortable in their initial planting site, cause sooner or later, ya know there gonnna be moved.....I spent today "moving" plants around in my mind!! ;\ I'm waiting for the first rainy day and, I'm out there with shovel in hand ready to relocate as many as possible!

Also spent the day doing "real" work: cleaned out greeenhouse, shelves, flats, etc. ( Washed muck and dirt off outside covering, too......cold day coupled with freezing well water from hose made for frost-bitten hands.......(lotion treatment tonight!). Seedlings are starting to "burst at the seams" inside the house under lights, so as soon as I start transplanting them to their six-packs....they're outta here and in the greenhouse! Put down some nice black roofing felt on the greenhouse floor to help absorb heat and bought a new space heater (cause nights are still around 25-30degrees.) And so it begins.....Big Grin

We had a great day, too! What a wonderful Sunday! It was brisk but sunny. As soon as the sun hit the backyard my husband, 2 sons and I headed out. I planned on doing some more labor intensive yardwork but I quickly scrapped my plans to get some work done and ended up playing with the kids all morning! We headed in for lunch, nice hot soup and cheese toast, then both the kids took 3 HOUR NAPS! Then back outside again. Yep, it was a very delicious day!

It's been a wonderful week of sunshine and warm days here in S.C. and I've been luck to have been in my garden most every day. Two days of wondering in the woods looking for eatables and herbs.
My 4 year old granddaughter is comming Thurs. and she and I will be out there planting over the weekend. She loves to help. Ain't life great. I think we are all very blessed.
I got my beets, carrots and garlic in this week and put the strins up for the peas. They are about 10" already. I LOVE SPRING! :Smiler
Happy gardening all.

What a nice group of folks you all are! I feel like I could have happily spent the afternoon with any one of you here. That's what makes these web-based 'virtual' communities of people with shared specialized interests so wonderful: those that gravitate to them are usually so compatible & would surely all be friends if they were geographically closer together.

It was still a little chilly here yesterday, but Saturday's snow melted away completely - yippee!! It is still way too wet to dig in the garden, so my dear husband & I made a nice brunch and then went for a loooong walk in one of the local state parks - very muddy, but heaps of fun! You can definitely feel spring in the air. Glad everyone else had a good weekend too!!!

So nice to hear about your great day! We had one as well! We lined all four kids up and explained that we were having no friends over (groans from the 12 year old girl!) and we weren't leaving to go to town for any reason (more groans from the 12 year old!). We spent the whole day outside, building a windbreak fence around the garden (Yea for me! The 50 mph winds around here wreak havoc on tender garden plants!) and planting sugar snap peas, onions, lettuce, spinach, and beetberry. Our 6 and 8 year olds are so cute to watch in the garden. They are so excited! Everyone gets their own row this year. The kids have cantaloupe, squash, Asian melons, and wonderberries picked out for their rows, as well as the sugar snap row, which belongs to everyone! I can't ever seem to find enough to cook because the kids pick and eat them as soon as they're ready! Kids and gardening, so much fun, so many happy memories! P.S. the groaning 12 year old actually had fun (planting, mixing cement, playing baseball in the front yard, etc.) and she actually survived a day without her friends! ha ha
