Littlefrog's movie post has got me thinking of old sitcoms I used to love and still do.
My all time favorite - Newhart. I sure wish they were available on DVD. I have some of the episodes on VHS - but wish I had them all. I never get tired of that little inn in Vermont, or Bob Newhart's great sense of humor! I actually got to see him perform live about a year ago - what a cool thing that was!
The Golden Girls, Designing Women, Cheers, The Nanny - not exactly brain food but they all make me laugh at the end of the day.
Do any of you have favorites you still love years later????
Oh,yeah,I remember the Newhart show! Larry ,Daryl and Daryl(?) The opening village scene is actually a place in NH called Center Sandwich...a place I know very well.

I didn't post in littlefrog's "movie" thread since I watch a movie about as often as I win the lottery. I don't watch TV much more often than I watch a movie, but if the "Andy Griffith Show" is on and I happen to be in the room, I'll drop what I'm doing and sit til it's over. The best show ever made in my opinion!

You and my DH are cut from the same cloth so to speak! Although, he actually keeps track of the times Andy is on, then drops what he's doing and goes to sit until it's over. It's actually kinda funny! He definately has a preference for the black & white epsiodes over the color.
I myself prefer the Adams Family or the Munsters, and Gilligans Island will make me watch if I stumble upon it too. Man, I haven't thought about the Newhart show in ages! I did love that one too! As Buffalogal says, not brain food, but great entertainment. Way better than the reality stuff slapping us in the face daily! ;\
BG, Funny you should mention Gilligans Island - I remember as a kid watching that show and every time wondering if THIS would be the episode they got rescued!! (I was so naive!!!)
Remember the old Twilight Zone shows, and Night Stalker? They used to give me the willies back then but I couldn't keep from watching!!! And Dark Shadows too - used to make a beeline for the TV every day after school to see that one!
And the Partridge Family - wasn't Laurie Partridge just too cool with that hair swinging back and forth - I wanted to be just like her! And David Cassidy...with those Puka shell necklaces of his...swoooon...
And another one I loved....remember Family Affair, with Mr. French, Buffy, Jody and Sissy? And The Courtship of Eddy's Father. I'd sure love to see some of those episodes again!!
We watch Andy Griffith now and then, also Happy Days. Right now DH is on a MASH kick and I have to admit that I've kinda gotten hooked on it myself. I like Three's Company and we watch the Cosby show a lot. And of course, twice a day it's BONANZA!

I know! :O I would wonder the same thing! It even sometimes made me sad. What a sap I was! But they always fooled me by having exactly what they needed on that island, or at least being able to find something that worked. ;\ Like tree sap for glue, or clay they dug up for a tooth filling! My absolute favorite Gilligan episode, even back then, was the one where a trunk washed up on shore, and it was full of seeds. Actually, radio active seeds to be precise, and the veggies that grew from these caused weird phenomena to happen to each of the island habitants. Mary Ann loved carrots, and could see for miles. Gilligan loved spinach, and was stronger than all of them combined, Mrs. Howell (otherwise known as Lovie) loved beets, and had so much energy, she made Thurston tired just from watching her! I wish I could remember the rest, but it was hilarious! :^O
Yikes! I do remember Family Affair, and The Courtship of Eddies Father! What about Lost in Space with the Robinsons, or one of DH's favorites, Car 51. And yes, I also l:xved David Cassidy. Who wouldn't with that cool hair, all feathered and layered. What a gorgeous man! What memories! tee-hee!
"I love Lucy" WBW and I were in college and after classes and work we would come home to the attic apartment we rented and give ourselves a "break" before dinner and watch an episode of Desi, Lucy, Ethel and Fred (Little Ricky came later).
There were many classics, but Lucy and Ethel stomping the grapes was my all time favorite. But I guess that would not be much of a surprise:P
We are not big TV folks in general, but both of us liked the very early Archie Bunker stuff and for some reason I found the old Rowan and Martin "Laugh In" just dumb enough to be funny- I still think it was the best comedy before SNL.

I loved the 'Laugh In' and still enjoy Archie. It's amazing how he got away with some of the stuff.I always had faith that one day Gilligan would find a way to make it home. That scene at the very begining of the intro was filmed in Hawaii.I was at the actual dock where the 3hr cruise took off.I shoulda gone with them eh!
