If I didn't respond quickly enough.. Try me this week.. I have been tired from my new job. But I am happy and proud about my pickling experience and would love to share what I can with you. The more I delve into this picklng book.. the more I come to understand.. that most of the things we love in America.. are picklied and preserved with things we can grow in our own yards. I live in ZOne 6.. we sort of lived in Zone 5 just 25 miles north of here.. but Cilantro probably grows better on the North side of the Ohio river.... Fennel is a perinneal here... So is garlic & horseradish. You can grow a Bay plant in a good south facing window all season long. Pepper plants are easy to grow.. So Grow your own.. If you need seed for fennel, or bulbs for garlic.. email me...
I will probably have fennel seed to share in the next 2 -3 weeks. The Fennel seed I have is not a Florence/bulb fennel.. BUt it does produce a lot of seed...From What I may have written before.. the fennel I have is more like a perenneal rom Africa.. that gets tall, produces lots of aromatic seeds.. but doesn't bulb.. So if you plant it and don't harvest all of the seeds... you will have a spread... of fennel.. But that pickling book recommends using Fennel seed and fronds in place of dill to ones liking.. So..
If you are game.. E-mail me. If you want some of my garlic... I will send that too. I love you all here.
