Has anyone ever done either of these? I'm assuming whichever method is done, there is a sealer coat of some kind of enamel/varnish. I've seen PermEnamel in Michaeals (both the paints and the enamel sealer). Do you 'bake' them in the oven to set the rub-on or paint? And if you use an enamel/varnish when do you put it on: before or after putting it in the oven - if you do that?

Questions, questions, questions. Want to try another project, and I know there's some mighty talented and resourceful people here who might be able to help.

I've stencilled on ceramic floor tiles with that creme paint - there's no heat involved in sealing that, but the sealant was pretty fume-y. Got it at the hardware store, not the craft store. You put it on after you've painted the tiles, and it does need to be reapplied in high-traffic areas.

Thanks, elfie. I was considering doing some accent tiles in my kitchen backsplash (*see: finally getting around to it ). But....after careful consideration and a few botched crappola "experiments", I decided I'd rather buy what I want then risk making a muck out of what coming along to look like an otherwise beautiful tile job by DH.

He did say, however, that he'd like to hunt down the person who first thought to mount backsplash ties on the diagonal and KILL THEM!

Forgive me for chortling... I have some diagonal issues, myself.

Buying for a backsplash is ssooooo much easier.

I've used perm enamel for alot of projects, but for tiles it would be better (IMO) to use Pebeo's Porcelaine or Glasss & Tile Works. Just to keep in mind if you decide to make trivets or something...
