I've gone crete crazy! Careful if you try this at home, it can be addicting.

Here's some of my summer projects:
Stepping stones. Here's my hop, skip, and jump stepper path:

And then I made several little steps for here and there:

Birdbaths. My first birdbath, It's 2 opposing rhubarb leaves. I set up a dripper by hanging a milk jug with a pinhole in it. With the cap on loosely a gallon will drip all day:

The big mother birdbath, this thing is huge, what was I thinking? The foot is a cinder block:

Birdbath in progress. The stand will someday be a stump I think, it's just a coarse base coat now:

Bowls and wall hangings to be painted:

Detail on bowl and how I did the base. Interesting the purple color that came from the leaf:

One last bowl very much still work in progress. It's a planter with drainage holes. I will keep adding leaves to roll over the top. I need to switch the imprint to the top side for the leaves that roll over. I think I'll make a column pedestool, maybe out of an oatmeal box lol. The pedestool will be hollow so the water drains down the middle. This one will be painted too.

The white cement is a quickcrete product called quickwall. It's really nice to work with and preserves a lot of detail. Great stuff.

Thanks for looking.

I have been dreaming of making myself a bird bath using this technique. You are an inspiration, and I will definitely try it! Thamks for sharing.

Thanks for all the nice comments. You are all too nice. It's not hard to do leaf casts since the leaves are the art, I just preserve them in concrete. Sculpting from nothing, that's art.

"You are selling these, I hope?" Yep Gail, I have some orders anyway. I hope to maybe sell some next year at our farmers market, these and gourd bird feeders. Selling locally is hard though. I live in such a small community in a region where "the arts" aren't a proirity. I think I could sell a few online but shipping would kill.

Go for it Mary! Time's running out for this year though. The leaves are getting old and tired now, and cement work isn't even possible here in the winter even if there were leaves. It's seasonal work, too bad since I need art work in the winter. I save up the painting for then.

Thanks again for looking.

Muddy knees David! Compost is my friend. Every day I enroll in gardening school. Some days it feels like kindergarten!

It's too bad we don't live in the same town, I know of one person who would be a loyal return customer! Big Grin

Those are wonderful Pogo. I've been wanting to try my hand at making some, but somehow never had the time or ambition this summer.

What I really want to know though is what are those pretty yellow flowers in the first picture? I know if they'll grow in ND, they'll grow here too.

Those pretty yellow flowers are tuberous begonias. They're usually grown as annuals but you can dig and store the tubers to replant the next year. They are very showey flowers that do well in shade.

Oh goodness, I haven't grown begonias in years and I guess I've only ever grown red ones. Seems to be about the only color of them we used to get in when we were selling bedding plants. I'll have to look for some yellow next spring. They sure are eye catching.
