I grew them for a number of years, have made mostly birdhouses & a few snowmen & Jack-o'-lanterns, but still have several big boxes of nice cleaned gourds of all sizes waiting to be crafted--someday!
I am surprised no one has replied to your query until now--Gourdheads are rather a vociferous lot, as a rule!
I have been to the Ohio Gourd Show a couple of times--what a trip!! Gourd saturation!! :-))

Really enjoyed that web page,I'd love to grow gourds but unfortunatly they dont do well here in Ontario.They are expencive to purchase too.Thanks for the link.
