Anyone make dried pepper things? Any ideas? Do you use fishing line and a big needle?

No longer a market virgin; looking forward to year two of being a professional grower.

I have strung them up. The cayennes flesh can tear easily with something fine and strong like fishing line. But you could use it.

I used a big needle and twine, the size like they used to tie up meat in paper not the kind for baling hay! Kitchen twine? I am planning on doing that this year.

What are you planning to make? If you are going to make one of those wreaths.. I want to know how many pepper plants you have to come up with that many peppers!

The "old people" used heavy cotton string--about like kite string, and a fine sewing needle to string peppers. Fishing line (monofilament) works ok, but if it's fine, it will cut through the flesh if it's not used gingerly. I've used a heavy thread, like quilting thread or the fine craft candle wick and it does well for strings of 2 ft. or so. Other than stringing pepper to dry (Ristras) I've not done any "crafty" things with pepper.

I strung some peppers using mint-wax dental floss..The ants won't go near them.

Yep! Dental floss is pretty strong, but never thought of ant repellent properties! Might try that to hang my hummer feeders next year! Big Grin

Beansprout, I am so glad you mentioned this for the hummer feeders. I never thought of it. My problem was earwigs.

it's so fun how these conversations wind aroundQ

first we're talking about dried pepper crafts, then someone finds out a delightfully useful tip on hummingbird feeder pest control!

How cool is that?!

makes one want to read every post, no matter what the title is.
