I received this note from my daughter in Germany. I thought if any of you ladies have the time or inclination, you might make up some home made decorations to send to this project. I will get the address from my daughter to mail these decorations to. I plan to make some crocheted snowflakes & bead bells myself.
Greetings, This year we are continuing a program entitled 'Trees for Troops'. This program provides Christmas Trees and decorations for every room in the Trauma Ward (MTD) at Landsthul Hospital as well as several events (concerts, etc.) to bring Holiday Cheer to our brothers in arms who are far from home. These Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines can sometimes stay at the MTD for extended periods of time as they receive treatment and recover from their battlefield injuries. As you know, this time of year is particularly difficult for those isolated from family, and far away from home. To help support our combat brethren, we need your help in many ways! We are currently in need of: -80 Christmas Trees around Three feet tall (anything from a tabletop tree on up) -Decorations, decorations, decorations (there are a lot of hallways and common areas that can use Holiday Cheer!) -Someone artistically inclined to design simple signs/banners for distribution -Handmade Garland strands of any type (popcorn, cranberry, flower) -Small handmade ornaments (this year we will only be accepting handmade ornaments) -Handwritten Christmas Cards, letters and notes -POC's to be leaders in their areas to help collect donations -Volunteers willing to show up and decorate and distribute trees and help with events -Leaders willing to take charge and help out in a variety of areas -People stateside to work with their Sq/Base organizations to get letters, decorations, etc. If you are interested in donating your time, treasures or talents to this project please e-mail TSgt Mark Tilsher at mark.tilsher@ramstein.af.mil. Below is a link to the project from last year: www.treesfortroops.net Thanks in advance for all of your support! Have a great day. Great Idea!!! Perhaps there might be a wider audience of interest if you post it on Club OG--it gets many more hits than the craft forum--and there's already a post about an ornament exchange between members. And I, for one, wouldn't mind posts to include OTF and New Gardeners--it's a worthy cause and most of us support our troops regardless of politics.
