Compared to other years my 3 little RM's seem to be standing still.
I'm not worried about them, just impatient. For the month of June we had mostly rain, but for the past 2 weeks it's been sunny. Perhaps not warm enough? It's been in the '80's, but someone told me they think Rm needs higher temps. I think 80's is about typical for NJ summer, and by now mine have usually started to really take off. What is your experience with Rm so far? ellen |

Mine is really slow too! Last year was the first time I planted it and by now it was probably 4 times the size! I'm glad to know it's not me! haha

My RM has grown fast this year, in the mild summer we have had in NJ, so much so that I have trimmed it twice and taken a plastic shopping bag stuffed with it into work, to give to those who don't have it! The second time was just this week, as it was getting into the trenches, so I had to trim it back, so I could re-trench my garden. The first trimming was to get all the dead blooms out of it, but I also trimmed it way back, to even it out on the sides, and it grew back in just three weeks.

wow Dave, that's great.
But you keep yours over the winter right? Mine are new plants, so maybe that is the difference. e |

Here are those same rosemary plants, about 6 months old, to give you an idea of how fast they grew in one season. And though the one in the pot grew faster at first, this is when I transplanted it to the ground, because it was almost rootbound in that 3 gal. pot, in just that time. Then, after transplanting, it bloomed, I guess triggered by the stress, while the other did not bloom until this last spring, and grew faster for a while. Now, when they are just over 2 years old, they are pretty close to equal.
The first winter they were small enough to be covered with trash cans when it would get quite cold (below 20º). This winter they were so large I had to cover with a tarp, so they did grow fast! Dave |
