Hi, wondering if anyone has any interesting ideas for trellis's? I am thinking specifically for my cucumbers that will be in half barrels. I was thinking that I might make some sort of ladder type-thing-y to stradle my barrel?! I love this site!! s
i put up some field wire between a couple of t posts and planted cukes along the bottom. they didn't climb real high but most of the cukes were off the ground, which is the idea behind trellising.
the vines are strong and the cukes won't break off, so anything sturdy will do.
How about Maple saplings. If you have a woods near by that you own, just go outnand cut some saplings and tie together with raffia or twine You will need 1 1/2 inch diameter saplings 2 half whiskey barrels or similar planters raffia or twine A few #4 0r #6 finshing nails (without heads) depending on thickness of saplings. Loppeers for cutting heavy ends of saplings clippers for taking off any small twigs hammer size and shape depends on your ideas.3 fine gardening has some ideas on how to go about building one also Garden gate magazine also has some ideas just do a article search and it will get you there! Good luck!
