X-( I spent weeks nurturing my pansy babies from seed, finially they were in the ground, thriving, ready to open tier first blooms. then, a columbine I had aquired last year with verigated foilage and blue flowers was just sending up new fresh leaves. I was excited. Yesterday they began disapearing. The pansy plants AND the leaves of my columbine. I was blameing bugs. I was mad at the toads for not being awake yet to eat the bugs. But I did not expect a bird to be the culprit. There is abird that keeps trying to nest in my propane grill. well, I opened the grill to clean it out and well...his building meterials consisted of catkins, weeds, twigs, ground ivy...and yes, pansy plants and columbine leaves...WHAT THE HECK? :O

LOL! When ya gotta have a soft bed to lay your eggs in, well, go for it! Those leaves will dry up nice and soft...

I have some hanging planters on my back porch and each year when the jays want to nest, they start tearing out the liners to take for their nests... this year I let them. Both male and female took turns tearing the liner. haven't seen them in a few days, so I wonder if the nest is done?

Pulled out the weedeater today, but only after removing the bird's nest that had been built in the toe guard. It was in the shed!! LOL I think I may have left the shed door open for a few days earlier this spring. Apparently, Carolina Wrens like sheltered areas for their nests--we had one try to build a nest in the outdoor storage area of our apartment last year.

It's fun to see what kinds of things go into those bird's nests. But I prefer when it's not my coddled food plants!!

LOL. Years ago I left a pair of shorts on the line to finish drying overnight as they were still damp. As it was misting lightly for 2 days after that, I wasn't hanging any more laundry and forgot all about the shorts (with an active toddler, and 5 or 6 months pregnant it wasn't hard to forget anything!). When I finally remembered the shorts and went to retrieve them, a bird flew out of the pocket--she'd made a nice start on a nest in there.

I wish the birds would take my pansies. They won't bloom. I guess they'll make good compost though Wink
