Just so that we gardeners here in the south of Canada can feel like we're contributing to the general chit-chat about how warm things are getting...

They're forecasting above freezing temperatures for the next 4 or 5 days, with highs pushing 10 C or about 50 F. Yay!

Beware the itchy fingers, craving dirt under the nails.

After last week, anythin over 0 degrees feels like a heatwave.
Started my tomatoes and peppers yesterday, my perennials are up to 4 inches high and I'm beginning to sharpen pruners, and assemble all my gear in one spot.
My spring bulbs, against a cement wall, are well ahead of the game and a welcome sight against the drab grays and browns of early spring. A sure sign the season is gearing up, despite our recent cold spell.

Southern Quebec is also showing signs of life - hovering just the lower side of zero and rain for the weekend (you know rain - its that snow thats already melted by the time it hits the ground). Don't care - I'm starting the damn peppers and chilis on Friday.

Thankfully not everyone feels like I do about the cold. It is too crowded here as it is.

You go Spidergt! Can;t imagine it being so cold for so long. And I thought I had gone and froze when I moved from Southern California to Southwest Missouri.

But we have four distinct seasons, and there is something to enjoy in every one. I bet I wouldn't anticipate gearing up for gardening season if I could do it all year.
We're due to get unusually warm over the next couple of days, +10 - +14oC. I'll have to find my shorts...

no... Frowner But the daffodils on the west side of the house against the stone wall are up a good 7 or 8 inches! Does that count? And the hyacinth that my husband dug up to 'save it from the cold' is in full bloom on my kitchen table.

The crazy thing is that we're soon moving even further south... as far south as you can get in Canada which will make us a zone 6b or 7! Maybe THEN I can compete with those crazy gardeners who are already eating tomatoes!
