I am fairly new to organic gardening. Last summer I started my first compost bin and I'm hooked. This spring I planned to amend my clayey soil to help with drainaige, breathability and fertility. I used gypsum, green sand, compost, winter rye (cover crop) and cow manure. It has been about a week since I tilled this in I haven't seen hardly any worms. The daytime temps have been in the 70's a couple of days. Did I over do it? Any suggestions would be welcomed.

Give them time, they will come, but it takes a while. I have found that simply layering organic matter on top of the soil rather than tilling it in draws them better. If you want, make a test spot of newspaper or brown paper bags or cardboard covered with mulch. Periodically lift it and you'll be surprised at how fast your wormies appear.

brennewoman is right - give them time.

Also look up "lasagna gardens" in google or your fav search engine. Great site.

I was amazed at how MANY worms came when my soil wasn't disturbed anymore. :O Our tilling is their tornadoes...
