Squash will do that for a few weeks before they put out the female blossums.

Granny would have said.. "you planted them in the wrong moon sign." I never really bought into all of that.. but squash tends to put out male blossoms for quite a while before female blossoms arrive (probably to attract bees, etc so the bugs can really serve their purpose when the females come on)
