Hey,
I only found this forum today and am amazed at the great community here! Agriculturalists truly are the way of the future. I am really interested in spending this spring /summer/fall working on an organic, sustainable agriculture farm and/or garden (preferably in the New York or Vermont area). If anyone is looking for a dedicated, perservering, responsible, curious hand, or has any advice on where to look, please let me know. E-mail at I look forward to hearing from some like-minded folks! Any reply is greatly appreciated. Lauren |

Do you know of WWOOF? They have listings of lots of farms all over the world that need workers/interns
Check this out North East Workers on Organic Farms (NEWOOF USA) New England Small Farm Institute, PO Box 608, Belchertown, MA 01007, USA. Phone: (413)323-4531. E-mail: programs@smallfarm.org. Farm List US$10. NOTE: Must be US resident. Supplies a list of farms in NE US only; mostly full season apprenticeships; will send list of other US farm apprenticeship programs. Does NOT supply either a USA list nor an International List. Also contact NOFA (http://www.nofa.org) they should have a listing of farms in your area that need interns Probably won't find many on this site who need interns as most are home growers not commercial growers. AFAIK there are maybe 15 farmers that visit this site regularily |

Check out Communities Magazine, too, or the Communities Directory. I know there are organic/permaculture egalitarian communities in the NE that advertise when they're looking for interns.

Welcome Lauren
Doesn't OG have interns at the Rodale farms in Emmaus, PA (right next to Allentown)? I bet that would be a great experience! |

Hi Lauren and WELCOME
I know that MOFGA here in Maine runs an apprenticeship matching program--- and we're not TOO far from Vermont. Try their website- I think it's excellent as is the MOFGA association. Farmme |

I found this info in the Feb/March 2003 Mother Earth News.
Like Ohiorganic mentioned, WWOOF (Willing Workers on Organic Farms) is one source. Those tend to be located all over the world. For those who want to stay in the states, Organic Volunteers (www.organicvolunteers.com) apparently has over 800 opportunities for people looking to gain experience. Also, the Appropriate Technology Tranfser for Rural Areas has a 115-page listing of "Sustainable Farming Internships and Apprentices". The list is available on ATTRA's web site www.attra.org (click on "Resources"). I know nothing about any of these organizations other than what I read in the MEN article. So take it at face value. I would love to be in a position where I could explore some of these opportunities myself! - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Zone 3 NW Wisconsin: Left the city in '98, hardly been back since! |
