Well yesterday I was spreading all my wonderful bags of leaves on my garden. While I was doing so I saw something that looked alive and green in one of the piles. I went to pull it out and would you believe what I saw? A chestnut tree. Apparently, we swept up a chestnut with the leaves and it sprouted, it's about 6 inches tall. The trunk is white with some brown spots. I planted it in a pot, I can't wait for it to grow some more. I took pictures but haven't developed them yet and have nowhere to post them anyway. I was just very excited and couldn't believe it myself.
Very cool jaemcats! Oaks are great trees. I'm in Rochester by the way. Have you been able to get much planting done yet? We have a stretch of warm weather and now some pretty cook temps.Toadherder
That's pretty neat!! I had a walnut tree grow in a pot that I left filled with dirt over the winter. Squirrels must have been busy, ended up to be 2 of them!!

Found a website that listed types of chestnuts. Well my boyfriend did. He got very curious. It's a chinese chestnut. Would've been nice to be American but I still got a cool tree out of it.
That's really wonderful, it's like your baby! There is, still, an old chestnut tree near my old elementary school, and they saved it even when they widened the road, so it is now a historical tree that can't be removed.
You and that tree can love being in your garden for many years to come!!
