lisaann,
You crack me up! Just wanted to add that I place a small bowl of hot water with several drops of eucalyptus oil in it, in my room, and that helps me breathe easier. (I have a fan running year-round). I have chronic sinus problems, and I also put the same thing in my kids' room, if they have a cold/congestion. It smells like Vicks Vapor Rub, but I like the smell! Can't hurt to try some of these here things! LOL! Vicki |

I too have a snoring husband, and I am a very light sleeper. We tried assorted "fixes", but the cure is seperate bedrooms. I've had my own room for a few years now, and I love it. My room is my hangout, with my own private stereo, tv, arts and crafts strewn all over the place.
There is nothing wrong with seperate rooms for married couples. In fact, years ago, it was normal to have seperate suites! If one was rich, anyway. His room is decorated to his taste, mine is with my preferences, and we "visit" as the whim takes us. As for "cures" for snoring, there are many things that cause snoring, from the jaw muscles relaxing, to weight, to a strange tongue, to sleep apnea, to allergies, to the way the teeth meet, and so on. You can spend a fortune on trying to figure things out, only to not cure anything. Age also causes snoring. No turning back the clock. MCat |

I am the snoring husband at my house. My wife wasn't getting any sleep, nor was I getting enough. I did the overnight check-up at the sleep center. I have sleep apnia. The cure was a $1300 breathing maching called a CPAP. It automatically adjusts the air pressure I need. I put on a face mask, turn it on and we both get a good night's sleep. Well worth it and way better than a divorce!
Muddy knees David! Compost is my friend. Every day I enroll in gardening school. Some days it feels like kindergarten! |

After my husband was tested for sleep apnea in the VA, they gave him a state of the art machine. We both got the best sleep in years.

Lisa Ann,
Kim is correct that snoring can be a serious medical problem when related to apnea. Does he stop breathing for a few seconds or a minute? Does he jerk or thrash about suddenly during the night? Usually that is when the breathing starts and the sleeper is gasping for a breath. Is he drowsy during the day? May highway accidents are linked to sleep disorders. The only way I could PROVE to my husband that he had a sleep disorder was to *tape record* his LOUD night time breathing so HE could hear it. Before hearing the tape he accused ME of having the problem. He immediately made an appointment when he heard the breathing for himself. When he went to the sleep clinic, covered by many insurance plans, they recorded 150 times per night that he stopped breathing. He could have a heart attack or stroke because the blood pressure can soar when breathing stops/apnea. He now wears a CPAP mask, continuous positive airways pressure, EVERY night. We both sleep better and his energy is GREATLY improved. The CPAP is a soft white noise that is NOT offensive. YOU will have more energy too, if you sleep better. MY LIFE GOT BETTER. Best wishes. Please TAPE RECORD him tonight. Dianne |
