What I liked about Texas was that the beaches can't be individually owned or fenced off to disallow public access. This is not the case everywhere. Some people can have private beaches.

This has been very, very informative. Felt like I was in a history or government class after reading all the posts. I remember when reading over the deed to our property, the spring we were using was mentioned in the deed and a Water Company (don't remember the name now) had the rights to that spring. I called our local governing body and they told me not to worry about it that laws on the water rights or infringement, etc. had not really been enforced or questioned for many, many years, and this was about 30 years ago. Still, it's something to keep in mind.
