I'm a new member of this forum and this year I want to get a jump on my gardening. It'll be a first.
I'm wondering where are good sources to order vegetable seeds, strawberry plants, etc. Contact info like phone #s and web site urls would be most helpful.
Hello Brad, There are a lot of good ones but some of my favorites are: Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds at www.rareseeds.com, Peaceful Valley Farm Supply at www.groworganic.com, and Seeds of Change at www.seedsofchange.com. Also, I have purchased good quality seeds from High Mowing Seeds at www.highmowingseeds.com. Don't forget to read up about soil. You'll want info. on building up a healthy soil to reduce diease and pest problems and increase quality of your produce. Good luck and have fun! Dusty
Try http://www.superseeds.com which is Pinetree Garden seeds. They are low cost because they have garden sized packets. There are also a lot of other good places. I think there was a thread about this earlier in January. Do a search.

You might try Southern Exposure Seed Exchange. Try www.southernexposure.com for a free catalogue. They have a lot of indepth information about the seeds they offer such as planting instructions, disease resistance, flavor ratings etc. The seed are a little more expensive then someother places but you sometimes pay for service and quality. Besides you can get the information from their catalogues and order from a cheaper one! Not that I would ever do that(crossing heart}
Hey neighbor, greetings from zone 7. It depends on what you want to grow. If you go to the local feed&seed you will get what grows well in our area. Most are hybrids that have been crossed to deal with the deseases in our area. If you are a beginner, I suggest that is where you start. If you are experienced and want to try heirlooms, I suggest trying www.SeedSavers.org .

Where in NC? I'm in Charlotte, and starting my first real NC garden in May when we move into our new house (hurrah!). I had a garden in Iowa six years ago, and one little raised bed, briefly, in Charlotte when we were renting a house. But now I will have a real yard with good sun exposure, and I can't wait.
