I got my seedlings in! Eight Better Boys, eight Rutgers, four Beefsteaks, four each of cabbage, brocolli, Bell peppers, Jalopeno peppers and cauliflower. And one more thing....when peat pots start to dissolve...YECH!

Not having a good seedling year; extremely low germination and mold. Good thing is succession planting!

Well, looks like I'm going to loose three Rutgers, but out of 30-something plants, thats what I would call acceptable losses. I'll throw in some spare seed when it stops raining. By the way, call me stupid, but do you stake Rutgers? I know you stake BetterBoy and Beefsteak, they're indeterminate, but Rutgers are determinate and are said to not need it. But what do you guys say?

Well, looks like I'm going to loose three of my Rutgers, but three out of 30-something plants isn't too bad! I'll just throw some seed out there when the rains die down. Let me ask a question, do you guys think I need to stake the Rutgers. They're determinate, unlike Better Boy and Beefsteak, so I don't know if they really need staking or not.

General rule with determinates is don't stake, but vine support does help get heavier yields, prettier fruit and makes harvest easier. You just don't have to worry about five to six footers.

Ummmmmm, who me? Nah, I like my tomatoes tall and cheeky, sliced, raw, with my steak. Twisted minds around here. Must be from too many months eating horrid, store bought tomatoes. ]Smiler
