I had my first sample today. While I didn't get many because of not having the plants near by,I still was able to get a few. After doing the prepartion and adding sugar, they taste really good and I plan on trying to grow more next year. I save a few berries for that purpose. Thanks again!!!

What zone are you in? I was thinking of trying the garden huckleberry this year myself.

Give three fold what you take.

I absolutely LOVE Huckleberries. I live in the Redwood Curtain up in California and believe me, we have Huckle Berries. Smiler They are usually ripe right around August to mid september. There are two varieties, blue and red. I myself like the red ones better Smiler

The garden huckleberry that buttercup69 is referring to, is from the Nightshade family. The Latin name is Solanum melanocerasum and unlike popular belief, the garden huckleberry is NOT poisonous, but a delicious and very pretty addition to the garden. We've grown them for years.

Here's a link to what the Seed Saver's Exchange catalog says:
http://www.seedsavers.org/prodinfo.asp?number=622&variation=&aitem=1&mitem=1

Hope this helps :-)

Your Welcome. Mine froze before I got around to harvesting them, but there's always next year.

Abigail, 8 kids grown, 1 blossoming and 9 grandkids- what a harvest!

Think I'll try some huckleberries this year too. Sounds good. And I love blueberries.

Thanks.
