Picture of Dirt Pit

I have finally ended the search for "My" ultimate compost bin. After much angst (Could you feel the angst?) I settled on the old reliable pallets. Unfortunately the pallets were only 3 ft2 instead of 40" X 48", but they were FREE. For all of you who offered encouragement and suggestions and those special few who shared in my angst I offer my most heartfelt thanks. You're all the cat's meow or the dog's bow-wow (depended on your particular persuasion!) Now, in search of the "Ultimate Pallet"! Some people would say I have too much free time!

Forever grateful,
Dirt

Trust me! I'm from the government, I'm here to help!

Makes sense to me: If composting is the ultimate recycling process, why not "recycle" the bin material?

Seriously, I made what I feel is a rather nice three bin compost setup from seven identical oak skids and three sacrificial skids (for removeable front panels). The trick is getting all identical skids, and leveling the base area.

One word of caution, the finished compost does tend to filter into the space between slats, so maybe you want to line the bins with wire mesh.
