And so far I've planted: radishes, garlic, 2 out of 12 broccoli, and lettuce. The orange cauliflower seedlings are doing fine in spite of having fallen over. Next week I go with a gardening buddy/neighbor to http://www.theodorepayne.org/, the best place for native CA plants in this area, and hopefully again next week to a commercial nursery for the rest of the vegies plus purple pansies for the lettuce bed, and then comes most of the fall planting work. The temp is down to the low 50's at night, mid 70's during the day. It even "rained" one day. Ok, so it was 0.01", but that counts for something, doesn't it? And the pineapple guavas are starting to be ripe and are they delicious.

Fall has come here too finally I think. We are having a Noreaster (sp???) too. Temperatures in the high 50's after it has been in the 70's or 80's for awhile. No leaves falling yet though, and really no fall color yet. It's a late year because we had no rain for 6 weeks and then normal rain in September so everything rushed to bloom then. Still blooms on the crepe myrtles. My one lone raspberry bush still has not ripened it's raspberries. No low temps below 50 forcasted though for 10 days so hopefully all will continue to produce in the garden for now. I am having a bumper crop of yellow wax beans from the fall planting. The tomatoes continue to produce, though they are slower with so much less light now. Also cukes from my late planted vines. That was a gamble but it payed off. Fall tomatoes don't taste like summer tomatoes though. Need a lot more spice in the tomato salad.

Hey Judy, how did your spinach experiment go? I got only about 50% germination from my 2006 year's seeds so I was wondering?

Yes fall's officially here.
•My cats are getting their thicker winter fur-coat
•A new compost pile has been started
•I can't walk to my mailbox w/o sliding on a continuous carpet of fallen acorns
•The Christmas catalogs are already accumulating and..
•Candy has gone on sale for Halloween

Still waiting for Fall here, the trees are turning but it has been unusally warm!!

Hauled in a 5 gallon bucket of ripening tomatoes, made 12 pints of salsa (again) and have enough to make lots more once they are ripe!

Don't ever recall having to pick beans this late in the year!! Just picked another bag full (plastic shopping bag).

Just noticed today that I have new bachelor buttons growing, and volunteer beans growing from this year's crop. Unreal.

All our spring bulbs and flowers have started coming up too, kind of early for October. Naturtiums, paperwhites, sparaxis, and so forth. They seem to start earlier every year but maybe I'm not remembering correctly.

When I work the early shift, it's dark when I leave in the morning. Frowner

It keeps getting dark earlier and earlier; soon I won't be able to do anything in the garden unless it's my day off. Frowner

PANSIES! PANSIES! PANSIES! Smiler

I don't automatically take off shoes and socks and put on flip-flops after work.

Business has picked up now that the heat is over and it's not cold yet.

Neighbors have put up pumpkin lights and Halloween decorations.

I don't have to turn on the AC in the car, but I need the heat and window defogger in the early morning.

I'm getting the urge to start baking again.

Soup sounds like a good idea.

Hi Ellen,

Thanks for asking about the spinach...
So far only some of the 2004 seeds have done anything...a couple sprouts from 1998's...that's about it...but I'm still looking... Roll Eyes

I had low expectations so anything germinating is a plus at this point.

Fall is here...yep...instead of needing socks with my garden sneakers to keep my feet from sweating, I needed them to keep my feet warm!

We are starting to get leaves on the yard instead of still up in the trees and it was in the 40’s last night for the first time. I will be cleaning up the garden in a few weeks and will be settling in for our second winter here soon.

I love fall, but then I love the other 3 seasons too. They each have their own special appeal.
