Hi,all. Please help me if you can. My little gal Shelby has been playing with her friend for the last two years on a homeade playset made out of pressure treated wood.Should I be alarmed? They have had many picnics in the playhouse.
Don't panic, but make an appt with her pediatrician and ask for a heavy metal panel to be drawn. Explain to dr. about play area and your concerns, make sure panel includes arsenic testing. Stay calm about the whole thing, everything will be ok. some things dr might ask: has she complained of headaches, nausea, vomiting, has she had difficulty walking, talking, slow in development. Those sort of things. I'm sure she'll be fine, but play it safe and get her checked. good luck and let us know. gigi
There is more than one type of pressure treated wood. Some are pressure treated with various oils rather than with arsenic. If the wood has been painted or sealed, likely there isn't a problem. You might ask the folks for a chip of the wood to be analyzed, because I'm sure they don't want their child endangered too.
Thanks for all your input and concern. I was ignorant about pressure treated wood. I wish my neighbors cared about their kids health but I'm doubtful. I'm the weirdo treehugger in my community. OK with me. Thanks again. Peace to you,my friends. I'm thankful to be amongst caring, inteligent folks. Shari
