Unless you are in the south where Fire Ants are a problem there is not reason to do harm to those ants since they are a big part of Ma Natures recycling machine. It is a myth that ants "farm" aphids, they eat them.
Ants are nature's best clean-up crew. After everyone else has had their fill of dead meat, only ants (and bacteria) will eat it and get it out of harm's way. They eat all dead animals down to the bone, which makes it safe for everyone else. I keep them out of my house, but outdoors they are a blessing.

I'm in fire ant country and when a new mound rears it's ugly head I take my hoe and spread the mound around as far from the center as I can. I also dig out as deep as I can, the mound, with the hoe. It works pretty good!!
Fire Ants will be a problme for you and your Texas A & M University has the best control information available. Do what they tell you and you won't have Fire Ant problems.
