Does anyone know of any websites or any info on "the effects of music on plant growth"? I am looking for any info that would be useful for a 6th grade science project.

I typed in "Music and Plant Growth" on the addy bar and got 290,000 hits on the subject. Many that I gave a cusory glance at looked like they posed that same question. There has been a lot of discussion about this but most of the University research I've seen indicates that more depends on the care given the plants by the gardener than the type of music and that those that listen to classical tend to be better caregivers than those that listen to rock or rap resulting in better growth.
My own, unproven, observations are that those that listen to classical music tend to have longer attention spans and those that listen to rock, rap, CW, and other music tend to jump from subject to subject too quickly, shorter attention spans and often are unable to complete a project because of that.

I thought there was a big study on this about 20 years ago. I really don't recall what the effect was, but seems they were saying that plants liked soft music. Not R&R or rap and the like. I 've never tried it.

Let us know what you find out.

http://www.molecularmusic.com/musicoftheplants.htm

this website has an interesting twist on the topic...the molecular structure of plant materials has been digitized and made into music.

this site is put out by a botanist who gets lots of questions on the topic.
