I planted some ferns two years ago. They did almost nothing for the first two summers, and now, due to the warmer than average weather in Southern Ontario, one of them is coming up. It is about maybe 8-10 inches in diameter. We have a cold snap here, and I wonder if the fern is in danger, and if so, is there anything I can do to save it? (I have mulch, compost, etc ready to put on it. It is native to the area but I don't remember whether it is a Christmas fern or another type that I planted.
Marg. MargMargMarg.....World Class Cities don't DO coldsnaps, Mel won't allow it. (guffaw)
If it is native to the area, don't worry about it. Ferns are mostly below ground in early spring and anyways, their leaves are tightly together, the way that plant protects itself.
What do these west coastites know about our weather? "You have to live here to get it." !! If it's native it should be o.k. It's had 2 years to establish. Besides it's now covered in snow again, right?
Yeah Mary it is covered by snow. Gee I never thought Ontario bashing extended to gardening bboards. Ever notice the worst Ontario bashers are the people who moved from here?????? he he
