My daughter gave me flowers for my birthday the gift that keeps on giving year after year. The Tulips are variegated or striped pink & white.

I think I remember reading several years ago that a virus or fungus Im not sure what, caused the variegation.
Therefore, one should not plant them near solid colored Tulips.
Does anyone have any insights to this?
Or has my Old-timers set in again and my mind confused or failed me once more?

Not all variegations are caused by viruses. And I haven't noticed the variegations spreading to other tulips when planted together in my garden.

I've been mixing tulips of all kinds together for years with no problems. Way back when tulips were getting their start in Holland, the variegations were caused by a virus. I'm guessing now they are a result of hybridizing.

Thanks to both of you for the reply. I'll go ahead and plant them with the rest.
