Hey There. My compost pile of horsemanure, sawdust and hay is about 1 yard large (4'x4'x8'). How often should I turn it? I'm not seeing much action this time of year. Some urine goes in too and I have a lot of moss dust that I could add, but haven't yet. I think I have a pretty good amount of browns to greens. I only get a few frosts a year.

If the carbon to nitrogen ratio (3 parts carbon to 1 part nitrogen, roughly) is good and the moisture level is good (just moist not wet) you should see a temperature rise in about 3 days (got to give the bacteria time to work) and then a peak in about 5 days. That is the time to turn you pile (if you want to) and then keep an eye on it and turn just about the time the temperature starts to fall off (usually about every 3 days).
