I dug up a fledgling corn plant this morning. Pulled it right up by the roots.
Now, in defense of myself, we have a bad problem with bermuda grass and I spend a portion of every morning pulling the stuff out of my garden beds--there's no getting rid of the stuff, it's just amazing. So I thought I was pulling up a fresh growth of bermuda grass, and was dismayed when up came a corn kernel with the very long roots of the "grass" I was pulling. :_|
I vow not to pull anything else grass-like out of that bed until it's tall enough for positive ID!!!!
It's all weedkicker's fault. Not sure how, but he said in another thread we could blame everything on him and insult him if we wanted to, so I'm sure there's some way that this is his fault, and I'm going to send him a cyber slap on the wrist. Shame on you weedkicker!!!
