Planted peppers. They came up, but could not seem to shed their seed coating. Eventually, the stem darkened at the tip and the seed, cotydil and all fell off. This has never happened to me before. Anyone know the reason, or if the stem will put on anything more?

That happens to me from time to time. If I keep the soil REALLY moist...wet, even, until the sprout emerges, it usually comes right off. Keeping it warm and damp can help, too...but watch it, because that is good conditions for fungal attacks.

My guess is they got too cold. Pepper seedlings like it to be 80˚F optimally and can be no colder than 75˚F. put a heat mat under them and keep them at 80˚F

The stem will not re-grow. You have to start over again. When this happens to me, I use tweezers and a darning needle to gently pull off the seed. Its kind of like delivering a baby!

Thanks for the info, I will replant. I'm no good at fine work like that, I shake too much. Probably couldn't deliver a baby either. :^O
