I use my compost pile for soil improvement rather than a true compost pile. I have given up on getting the pile to heat up properly like the one's on display at the Heiffer Project Earth Day. Instead, I use plenty of shredded leaves and grass clippings as well as kitchen scraps mixed with lime and chicken manure. then I cover each layer with garden soil. Every once in a while I use my tractor and turn the pile. I then use the results in my garden raised beds. John
Sil improvement. What a concept! I thought the compost bin was the place to pee when you are either too dirty or too lazy to go to the bathroom!!!! Just kidding!!!
