I am a brand new gardener having lived in a condo for the last 9 years. I planted beet seeds that according to the seed packet should have been ready to pick last week. The beets are about the size of a large penny or dime-not hardly big enough to clean up and eat. Any ideas or suggestions?
I sure love this forum. I have learned more from this forum than I could ever learn in a book!

The first thing I learned about vegetables was that the packets are often unrealistic about when things are ready. Make sure that the beets are far enough apart (@ 4" for regular beets is enough). Top dress with compost or shredded dry leaves to provide mulch to keep the soil uniformly moist and shelter the top of the beets from the sun. Give them another 2-3 weeks and get ready for a taste treat.

Happy Gardening!
