I'm thinking of using these on a landscape job, from everything I've read so far they seem like they would be perfect, but does anyone have first hand knowledge growing them? Do they spread too much or well behaved? Any favorite varieties?
Thanks,
Anne

We have one growing under our butterfly bush. It does fine, but it doesn't like getting too dry. I don't know the variety. I recently saw some pics of several I really liked. One was red! It isn't invasive either. Still just one 15" high plant. I love the leaves. They are unique. Try some.

Muddy knees David! Compost is my friend. Every day I enroll in gardening school. Some days it feels like kindergarten!

I LOVE lupines. They dont like to be moved around alot so put them right in their final spot. They like deep(they have long taproots) acidic soil. Mine are very well behaved. I'm not sure of their varieties. Mine grow in full sun.

A weed is only a plant you haven't found a use for yet.

This is great, thank you so much for your replies. I'm going to use these. I'll look for the red color, will look great with the rest of the design. Thanks again,
Anne

Some will have a "spreading" habit...they are natives in our area, and will spread like crazy (mostly purple flowers i've seen.)

If you plant from seed, you may want to nick seed with a knife or sand with a little sand paper to get them started.

Good luck!
