After a rough start, my cucumber plant is now thriving (except for a little powdery mildew). It has lots of cucumbers, and some of them are straight and some are crooked. Is this natural, or is there something I need to do differently?

You can also get crooked or misshapen fruiting from incomplete pollination. Pollination is not a one shot deal for vegetables. It takes the bees 20 or more trips to the same flower to do the deed right. Pretty awesome, I'd say

Many, many fruits and vegetables have less than symmetrical shapes. We get used to "perfect" produce from grocery stores, but blemish free produce is not the norm. Eat your uniquely shaped cukes and enjoy them.
