Eli and i got lots of work done this weekend in the garden! planted some bee balms and a bunch of other perrenials and got them all mulched good with some pine bark. pulled weeds galore...d#$m morning glories! and to believe i once loved these in huge pots.
Okay, so the year before last summmer we had been in a years long drought. last year was the wettest summmer and my garden did crappy. this year they are saying we are in another drought. i dunno which is worse...drought or too much rain. i would vote for too much rain. i can always water. I was hoping for rain tonight..they are talking about thunderstorms but i have hunch i will be hooking about 5 hoses together and watering tommorrow evening.
And...thank goodness I haven't planted any veggies yet. Although it has been high 70's and low 80's for 45 days...next week they are calling for lows at night around 38F. should i be worried about my snow peas that are sprouting or my perrenial flowers?
Last year was my first year of gardening in the Carolinas and the rains really dampened my enthusiasm. However, I bounced back and started planting in Feb. (plants: cabbage, broccoli, onions, Seed: sugar peas, lettuce, radish, & scallion) The 15" of snow in Feb. didn't seem to bother anything. The broccoli and cabbage stood tall and strong after the melt as if to say, "Is that the worst you have to offer? Bring it on!!!" Planted peppers about a month ago on the advice of the Farmers Exchange in Rock Hill and they came through a couple of 35 degree nights with no trouble. I'll take the weather this year over last year any day.
