Good post. I am getting into crop rotation for the first time next year and find some confusion on what follows what.

I have to do more research first, on what can be planted here (I relocated here from San Diego - one can grow anything, and all year long there!) Plus, it depends on if I run into more money, and can buy more garden goodies. I probably won't post til when I'm ready to plant seeds or when I put in my starts. Last year, I just bought starts, assuming they wouldn't sell breeds that won't grow here.

I think he meant:
wake up from your fall sleep; time to plan for 2010!

I am almost embarrassed to say I have my 2010 plan completely done. Last winter I spent many enjoyable hours planning my garden. This year I thought about it while weeding and had to get it all finalized to pick a garlic location. It may be tweeked a little but mostly it is all drawn out!
2009----------------2010
garlic and shallots-------melons and squash
melons----------sweet potatoes
brassicas,herbs--------peppers and onions
tomatoes-------1 row cucs, 1 row zucs, 1 row pole beans, 1 row peas with some carrots and some gourds on the end
onions, leeks---------brassica
beans, chard and peppers---brassica
zucs and cucs-------tomatoes, carrots
pumpkins--------lettuce and peas
potatoes---------root crops, scallions, leeks and cover crop
spring crops mixed-----garlic and shallots
nothing--------potatoes

I have dumped 3 loads of compost on next year's potato area and all my garden waste to decompose. It adds about 1000 sq feet for a grand total of just over 11000 sq ft.

No longer a market virgin; looking forward to year two of being a professional grower.

This next year, I am going to work a bit more on final height of things as my pepper got too shaded.

I had not grown indeterminate tomatoes in years, and had forgotten how endlessly they grow.

But I am still just playing in my mind, nothing serious yet. mk

I'm mostly working on flower beds and ornamentals this fall. Hope to have the house sold next spring – new owners can keep the garlic if they like, or maybe they'll be nice enough to split it w/ me.
